A member of the public said the incident “definitely wasn’t foxes” and was linked to other local sightings of the big cats.

The West Mercia Police log is among several that appear to support what big cat enthusiasts see as the decades-long presence of the creatures in the British countryside.

The log, from April 28, 2024 in Wychavon, states: “Last Thursday a stag had been killed and was on the verge by my field.

“On Friday, I reported to Wychavon Council.

“On Saturday, I thought the carcass had been collected by the council but then a little later found the carcass in my field.

“It had been stripped to the bone (other than the head).

“It definitely wasn’t foxes.

“I suspect it is linked to the panther sightings from 15/1 and 10/2 which were reported.”

The report has been newly released by West Mercia Police under the Freedom of Information Act.

In April, Worcester News reported how it was one of six sightings that had been recorded by the force over the past three years.
