Residents and businesses are being evacuated as emergency services respond to a ruptured gas main in a city centre.
Avon and Somerset Police has set up a 200m (656ft) cordon including the St James Barton Roundabout through to Park Row, Park Street, and Anchor Road in Bristol.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service has urged the public to avoid the area around Colston Street to prevent further congestion due to the large number of emergency response vehicles at the scene.
Ambulance crews and Wales & West Utilities (WWU) are also in attendance, and are “actively monitoring the gas leak and working to isolate this as quickly as possible”, the fire service added.
The fire service said the incident was first reported at 13:43 BST.
Mike Radford from WWU said upon arriving on scene, engineers found a leak on a gas pipe running beneath Colston Street.
He said: “We are now working as safely and as quickly as possible to make the area safe and stop the leak, but we do not know how long our work will take.
“The leak is being constantly monitored, and there has been no impact on local gas supplies.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of local people while we carry out this essential work.”
