A spokesperson for GWR has said that passengers will be disrupted for the rest of Sunday.
“Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa all lines are blocked,” they said.
“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
“A person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.
“If you are onboard one of the services in this incident and have been affected by this incident or know someone else who needs support, there is always someone to talk to. Contact a Samaritan on 116 123 for free, any time, on any phone. Help is only a phone call away.
“We’re working with Network Rail and the emergency services to deal with the incident as sensitively, quickly and safely as possible. Your journey is likely to be delayed and could take up to 90 minutes longer to complete. Some trains will be revised, only completing parts of their normal journeys, and there will also be some cancellations. To avoid trains being stopped for a long time outside of a station, some of our longer distance trains may be held in station platforms some distance away from the affected area.
“Our London Paddington – Bristol Temple Meads services may run via a diversionary route not calling at Chippenham or Bath Spa,” they added.
