Paul Saville, who runs Browns Golf on Culver Parade in Sandown, said the main cafe at the attraction will not reopen.

In an emotional statement, he said he had poured his ‘heart, soul, time and energy into trying to keep the cafe going’, but could not provide stable employment to his member of staff.

Although the cafe will not reopen, the golf course and shop remain in operation and the venue will be available to hire for events.

Paul said: “We will continue trying new ideas throughout the summer, including barbecues outside the golf shop and other community events. I still believe there are good days ahead.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the cafe, walked through the doors, shared a laugh, had a coffee, or simply believed in what we were trying to create.

“You will never know how much that meant to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Browns Golf in Sandown was established in 1932 and its course was designed by Sir Henry Cotton.
