Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid led coverage of Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation

Susanna Reid will be absent from screens over the next two weeks.
The 55-year-old broadcaster returned to ITV’s central London studio on Monday (June 22) to host the latest instalment of Good Morning Britain, alongside Ed Balls.
Throughout the broadcast, cameras had been positioned outside Downing Street, with Susanna suggesting that significant news might emerge during the show.
Later in the programme, Sir Keir Starmer appeared outside Number 10 to announce his resignation as Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party.
Sir Keir said he accepted he was not best placed to lead Labour into the next general election and he had informed the King of his decision to step down, reports the Mirror.

He added that he has asked Labour’s governing body to set out a timetable to replace him, with nominations opening on Thursday, July 9 and ending by the summer recess on Thursday, July 16.
Before Sir Keir’s address, Susanna revealed that GMB would extend until 10am, replacing Lorraine Kelly’s programme, which typically broadcasts from 9.30am.
She said: “We are now in rolling news mode, we will be on air until 10am this morning because we’ve anticipated it all morning.”
After the “breaking news” announcement, Susanna turned to Instagram to announce her absence from GMB.
Alongside multiple photographs and clips from her time in the studio today, the presenter wrote: “BREAKING! At 9.30 this morning the Prime Minster Sir Keir Starmer RESIGNED as Prime Minister live @gmb.
“ANOTHER resignation at Number 10 in the last DECADE after Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak.”

Revealing her absence, Susanna added: “I’m on a special project and will be back @gmb on Monday 6th July, the week that nominations for a new leader open. See you then @itv.”
Viewers were swift to express their disappointment upon discovering that Susanna would be absent from screens for several weeks.
“You will be missed Susanna,” one viewer commented beneath the post, with another remarking: “Oh it’s never the same when you’re not there!”
A third person said: “Enjoy your special project. I’ll be looking forward to what that is,” while someone else posted: “Susanna, great coverage of Keir Starmer’s resignation by you and the Good Morning Britain team. Look forward to seeing you back on the 6th July.”
Susanna’s temporary replacement has yet to be confirmed, though it’s likely to be one of her ITV co-presenters – Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh, or Charlotte Hawkins.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
