Oliver Tarvet, speaking after the match: “There is definitely a lot of emotions. I’m definitely very overwhelmed right now, but the main emotion for me is happiness.
“I think I have come a long way from where I qualified last year. I think I had some challenges as well, which makes these victories sweeter.
“I feel like I wasn’t playing the way I wanted to, and I didn’t progress the way I wanted to after Wimbledon but I got my head down, went back to University of San Diego, and started putting in some really good hours and shifts in. It’s so special that I am able to play my best tennis when it matters most.”
On challenges faced after Wimbledon last year: “I think it was the added pressure that I put on myself. Feeling like I had to replicate the levels and results that I had at Wimbledon. I feel like those expectations didn’t help me.”
