Father and son Paul and Ted Rich, James Holliday and first-time winner Dan Carson scored 62, net 50, to win Canterbury’s Father’s Day Texas Scramble by two in a field of 19 teams and 76 players.
The top three teams began at the 10th, and the winners covered the back nine in 30 with five birdies and the front nine in 32 with four birdies.

Second-placed Ian Chan, Richard Cook, Lucas Hung and Richard Singfield scored 12 birdies for 59, net 52, and Nick Bedford, Simon Clayton, Tim Jakob and Keith Nicholls eight birdies for 63, net 54, for third, on countback from Ben, Jake, Luke and Phil Small, who began at the 1st.
Team spokesman Paul Rich said: “We all played well, no bogeys, which was really good, and we holed a lot of putts. I holed one of about 25 feet for par on 17 which kept our momentum going and Jim holed four or five big ones for birdie.
“On 10 Ted hit a beautiful 3 wood to the edge of the ditch and Jim hit an 8 iron to eight foot and knocked the putt in.
“On 11 Ted again hit a great tee shot with a 7 iron to about 15 feet and Jim got it in again. It was Dan’s drive on 15, he hit a 3 wood to put us in perfect position, we all hit 9 iron in and Jim holed from about 12 feet.
“Then on the 4th we were about 170 yards back and I hit a lovely 7 iron on to the green to 15 feet from the pin and Jim knocked it in again.”
Canterbury’s Invicta League side lost 3-2 to Division 1 leaders Tunbridge Wells club Nevill GC, on Saturday.
Results: Ken Williamson & Pat Nash lost 2&1, Pete & Connor Bundock lost 1 down, Pete & Phil Johnson won 1 up, Rupert Chitty & Steve Eeles won 3&2, John Andrews & Scott Lindsay lost 4&3.
Canterbury beat Division 1 leaders London Beach for the second week running on Friday to move up to half a point behind in the East Kent Evening League title race.
Results: Geoff Plommer & Andy Davies won 2&1, Scott Lindsay & Peter Brisley won 4&3, Ray Holmes & James Shore lost 2&1, Marcus Rabenda & Brian Gaston won 2 up.
Dave Brindle made sure of a par at the 18th to win Monday’s Seniors Stableford overall on countback from John McNeil and David Piper in a field of 63.
A week earlier, Brindle had failed to score on the last while Neil Parsonson made a birdie to snatch the Seniors Captain’s Cup.
This time he was on in three with a drive, 7 wood and 6 iron and lagged his putt close from 20 feet for three points while McNeil double bogeyed and Piper made one point from a bogey.
Brindle was out in 44 for 19 points from three pars, four bogeys and two doubles and back in 42 from two pars and seven bogeys for 20 and totals of 86, net 68.
McNeil was ten-over on his opening nine for 20 and back in 11-over for 19 and 92, net 68.
Piper had his best competition round this year with 82, net 68, for 21 out from six pars, two bogeys and one double and 18 back from two pars and seven bogeys.
Dave Brindle said: “It was all on the last hole again and last week I had a no return and Neil birdied it, so I had extra concentration today and parred it to win.”
Craig Cole ended a three-year wait in the quest for a win at Canterbury
Craig Cole got over the winning line after three years of trying at Canterbury, when he scored 40 points for victory in a wind-blown Men’s Midweek Stableford.
Cole, who had finished second, third twice and fourth in his previous seven competitions, was out in one-under par, with birdies at the 1st and 7th and one bogey for 23 points.
He came back with four pars and five bogeys for 17 while equalling his personal best gross total of 75, for net 67, to win by three from Marcus Rabenda in a field of 61.
Rabenda had 16 points before blowing out on the 9th but then scored two pars, six bogeys and one double for 21 on his return nine to take second place on countback from Trevor Kelly, who had 20 out and 17 back.
Cole said: “I’ve been rebuilding my swing with our head pro Richard Wallis over the last 12 months and all of a sudden it’s come in. Richard has made me the most consistent golfer I’ve ever been.”
Canterbury’s Nikki Triggs – won the latest women’s weekend Stableford
Nikki Triggs scored 91, net 70, for 38 points to win Saturday’s Women’s Weekend Stableford on countback from Gemma Luckhurst, who had the silver lining of her first ever eagle.
Triggs birdied the first two holes, parred the 5th and ticked up six bogeys for an outward 24 points.
Lost balls cost her points on the 12th and 18th, otherwise she parred the 14th and had four bogeys, one scoring double and one scoring triple for 14 back.
Luckhurst, 94, net 70, eagled the 3rd for five points to boost her front nine tally to 26 but she faltered on the back nine to add 12. Kate Jain scored 37 points from 94, net 70, for third place in a field of 10.
Luckhurst said: “The eagle was the silver lining, it’s my first one. It was a 3 wood drive on to the green from the temporary tee and I holed the putt from 15 foot.”
Anna Meredith (h53) got up and down for pars at the 8th and 17th and she and Emma Richardson (h46) scored 45 points to win last Wednesday’s women’s friendly better ball competition by three.
Meredith was celebrating her first competition win at Canterbury and Richardson her second after they scored 27 points on their front nine and 18 back after failing to score on the 10th.
Louise Fairburn (h18) birdied the 1st and high scoring Lizza Berry (h13) the 3rd in a total of 42, one clear of third placed Caroline Collins (h7) and Susan Mulder (36) in a field of 12 pairs.
Callum Ferrett was two off his personal best with 80, net 69, to win Sunday’s Juniors Stephen Rogers Trophy by four shots.
He birdied the 1st and 9th and bogeyed 6, 7 and 8 for a front nine one-over par 37 before adding a third birdie on the 15th with one par, five bogeys and two doubles for eight-over 43 back.
Ted Rich made it 36 holes for the day after playing in the morning Father’s Day Texas Scramble and shot 87, net 73, with a birdie at the 15th, for second place. Christina Carlotti scored 91, net 75, to take third in a field of ten.
Canterbury GC’s Richard Wallis fell short in his bid to reach next week’s final qualifying for the Open Championship.
Wallis shot a four-over par 75 at Rochester & Cobham Park to finish tied 49th – eight shots off winner Haiden Matos of Dartford and six off the score of the last qualifier, Justin Chenu.
Wallis’ fellow Canterbury player Levi Johnson was five-over on 76 in joint 61st place.
Daniel Cooke’s attempt to make the cut failed at Chart Hills. He was tied 42nd, with a two-over 74 on the Sir Nick Faldo-designed course.
