From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Ruby Rose shared a clip of her painful injury on social media after falling into her swimming pool.

The Orange is the New Black and Batwoman actor, 40, posted the video on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, revealing she has broken “multiple” ribs.

The video shows Rose walking along the edge of her pool with a hose before slipping and crashing hard into the pool wall. She then paddles to the side, grimacing in pain.

Rose wrote in text overlaying the clip: “That’s your girl, RIP to my ribs, and to the rest of my summer, they are broken, multiple. Straight to hospital, did not pass go or collect 200 dollars.”

This latest injury follows a history of physical challenges for the actor, who is known for performing her own stunts. During her time playing the titular role in the TV series Batwoman from 2019 to 2020, Rose suffered two herniated discs in 2019, necessitating surgery.

Her recent acting credits include the 2024 film Dirty Angels, and she has also featured in major productions such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016), XXX: Return Of Xander Cage (2017), and The Meg (2018).

Rose made headlines earlier this year when she shockingly accused pop star Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her back in 2010.

Rose made the sweeping claims in response to a Threads post by music outlet Complex about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s headlining performance at Coachella. “Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne,” Rose wrote. “Who gives a s*** what she thinks.”

Perry, 41, has vehemently denied the recent allegations made by the Australian actor, slamming them as “not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.”

“Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named,” Perry’s representative said in a statement shared with Variety.

In April, Victoria Police confirmed to The Independent that they were investigating the alleged incident.

It came after Rose hit out at Sydney Sweeney in an unprompted social media rant about the latter’s role in the recent boxing biopic, Christy.

In a statement shared on Threads, Rose claimed she was originally attached to play Christy Martin, whom she called “Cherry.”

“The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing,” she wrote.

“Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time,” Rose continued.

“For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS [Sydney Sweeney] did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”
