The first trailer for the highly anticipated horror film ‘Werwulf’ has been released, giving audiences their first look at how Dartmoor has been transformed into the haunting setting for the medieval thriller starring Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp.

The trailer, which was released on Monday (June 29), plunges viewers straight into the film’s dark medieval world, with several scenes showing Dartmoor’s rugged landscape, towering granite tors and the specifically built village created for the production.

Filmed partly on Dartmoor last autumn, the production transformed areas near Widecombe-in-the-Moor and Postbridge into a medieval setting with fans spotting ‘28 years later’ star Aaron Taylor-Johnson drenched in fake blood while filming.

The two-minute trailer shows Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson trudging through Dartmoor and in their medieval house as eerie music booms in the background.

‘Werwulf’ is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Robert Eggers, best known for his visually striking and atmospheric horror films ‘Nosferatu’ and The Lighthouse’.

Set in 13th century England, the gothic horror follows a remote medieval community stalked by a mysterious creature as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality for the villagers.

The cast and crew stayed in Devon for 11 weeks during production as well as shooting some scenes in Wales, the Forest of Dean and Surrey.

‘Werwulf’ will screen in cinemas on December 25, 2026.
