Translated into English, Benn’s message was roughly: “I’m more Mexican than that asshole. I’m ready for war. This fight is for La Raza.” He accompanied the video with the caption, “Para La Raza.”
Just one day earlier, Ryan had responded to critics who questioned his Mexican heritage because he does not speak Spanish fluently.
“It’s actually really frustrating being Mexican American and having to hear from my own blood and people giving me shit,” Ryan wrote on X. “Leave me alone. I’m here representing, fighting, and enjoying my culture. USA is where I was born, and Mexico is running through my blood.”
He also rejected the “no sabo” criticism often directed at Mexican-Americans who are not fluent Spanish speakers, writing, “Nothing you say ‘no sabo’ he don’t speak Spanish’ is going to change the facts.”
Benn’s video appeared to mock that controversy by joking that he is “more Mexican” than Ryan while delivering his message in accented Spanish directly to the camera.
