A family-run healthcare business equipment businesses that has doubled its turnover, expanded its workforce and moved into a new headquarters in Wrexham is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Healthcare Matters, based at Llay Industrial Estate, supplies specialist equipment and services to the NHS, care providers and people living independently at home.
Founded in 2004 by Phil Spiby following a life-changing cardiac event that prompted him to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions, the company has grown from a specialist bed and mattress franchise into one of North Wales’s most established healthcare equipment providers. H
The business has doubled its turnover to £4.6 million and now employs 53 people. Its recent move to a purpose-built headquarters has also created space for a new training hub for occupational therapists, district nurses and community carers.
Healthcare Matters is also developing a new digital resource designed to improve the quality of life for vulnerable people living independently.
The company has received support through the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme (AGP), which provides targeted support for ambitious, growing firms.
Cabinet Secretary for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy Adam Price congratulated the business on reaching the milestone.
He said: “Congratulations to Healthcare Matters on its impressive expansion success. As the new Welsh Government, we are determined to see more companies like this grow and thrive.
“We want to drive investment, innovation and higher productivity across Wales, as we build a stronger economy that raises living standards and delivers prosperity in every part of Wales.”
Adam Spiby, Managing Director of Healthcare Matters, said: “Reaching our 20th year is a proud moment, but what excites us most is where we are heading.
“Doubling our turnover and growing the team to 53 people reflects the trust our NHS, local authority and private car epartners place in us. It also shows the commitment of our incredible staff, 95 per cent of whom come from this community.
“Our growth has always been organic and built on a simple belief: treat people the way you would want to be treated, and provide the best possible solutions.
“That ethos runs through everything, from our 24-hour emergency maintenance service to the hands-on training we now offer healthcare professionals at our new site, where we help occupational therapists, district nurses and carers feel genuinely confident using specialist equipment.
“Our new headquarters also gives us a platform to share the Lean methodology approach that has been central to our own efficiency and growth.
“We plan to offer tours and workshops to other businesses across Wales. We are also developing a new digital tool to support isolated and vulnerable patients, which we look forward to launching in the coming months.
“Having access to targeted expertise at the right time through the AGP programme has been genuinely valuable and has helped us move the business forward with greater confidence”
