Spider-Man: Brand New Day is almost here, and fans are grabbing onto every new detail they can find. With the movie only weeks away, the marketing campaign has started peeling back the curtain just enough to keep excitement climbing, and now an unexpected leak has given fans an early peek at some of the movie’s incredible concept art.
An early copy of Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art Of The Movie has found its way online ahead of its scheduled August release. Images and videos from the hardcover have been shared by a fan, offering a look at alternate character designs, environments, and action sequences from the film.
The good news is that it doesn’t appear to spoil any of the movie’s biggest secrets. If you’ve been trying to avoid learning the identity of Sadie Sink’s mysterious character, you can breathe easy because that mystery remains intact.
Instead, the leak focuses on concept artwork, including alternate looks for Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo‘s Savage Hulk, and several of the movie’s villains.
The pages feature artwork tied to Damage Control, which we already know plays a role in the story, along with concept art for villains Boomerang and Ramrod.
Interestingly, there’s no sign of artwork for other confirmed villains such as The Hand, Tombstone, Tarantula, or Scorpion. Whether those pages were intentionally left out or simply weren’t shown remains a mystery.
There are several pages showcase a wide range of alternate versions of Frank Castle’s iconic skull emblem, revealing just how many different directions the creative team explored before settling on the final design.
Comic book fans will probably recognize several of the ideas, as many of the concepts clearly pull inspiration from different eras of Punisher’s long publishing history.
The artwork also includes scenes showing Spider-Man and MJ taking refuge inside The Punisher’s compound. One interesting detail is that Peter Parker is shown without his Spider-Man mask during those moments, offering another small glimpse at how these characters interact in the film.
Another standout reveal involves Ruffalo’s Hulk. One piece of artwork appears to depict a massive fight involving Hulk, Spider-Man, and The Punisher, something Marvel has managed to keep completely hidden from the trailers and TV spots so far.
The art book also features several alternate versions of Savage Hulk. The different concepts explore varying amounts of torn clothing hanging from Hulk’s massive frame, along with a handful of alternate color schemes. Much like The Punisher’s designs, many of these versions feel like visual nods to Hulk’s comic book history.
While the leak offers plenty for fans to examine, it also leaves some of the film’s biggest mysteries untouched. There’s still no indication of several major characters or story elements that fans have been speculating about for months, and that’s probably for the best.
Even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art Of The Movie arrives after the film hits theaters, keeping those pages out of circulation helps preserve some of the biggest surprises. An art book leak filled with major character reveals or story twists could’ve spoiled the experience for everyone weeks before release.
Thankfully, that isn’t the case here. Instead, fans get an entertaining look at the creative process, a handful of awesome alternate character designs, and one very intriguing tease involving Spider-Man, The Punisher, and Savage Hulk that only raises even more questions before the movie finally arrives.
