Dumbleton Cricket Club – who play in Division One of the West of England Premier League (WEPL) – have rewritten the record books after producing one of the most remarkable scorecards ever seen in the short form of the game.
The club amassed an astonishing 417 for 2 from their 20 overs against Hatherley & Reddings CC, who are currently top of WEPL Division 2 .
Following the match on Tuesday evening, Dumbleton began researching the scorecard against T20 records from around the world – and have found no evidence of a higher score in a men’s club league match.
They eventually won the official Varistha T20 league fixture by 188 runs.
The innings centrepiece came from Ewan Gegg, who blasted an unbeaten 206 from just 55 balls, reaching his hundred in only 30 deliveries before racing from 100 to 200 in a further 24 balls.

His innings included 23 sixes and 13 fours, while Dan Holland struck 122 from 37 balls and Thomas Kelly added 64 from 25.
In total, Dumbleton hit 47 sixes, 22 fours adding up to a massive 69 boundaries in 120 balls.
The team’s run rate was 20.85 runs per over.
Ewan said: “We all said it’s one of the weirdest and most fantastic games of cricket we’ve seen,.
“We don’t see the record being broken for a long time. It was such an odd game.”
The Gloucestershire-based club is now seeking confirmation on its official record status for a T20 game, with the highest on record seemingly a T20 game in India in 2017 where Maavi finished on 416-2.
Last September, England amassed 304-2 – a record total in a T20 International between two Test nations – in their win against South Africa, while the highest total recorded in a professional game was 349-5 set by Indian side Baroda in 2024.
Spokesperson for the club Pete Boorman said: “No-one has been able to throw at us a higher one and we have gone through records to validate all scores across the country and the world.
“So far no one has been able to come up with a higher score in men’s T20 game. It would be lovely to have it officially ratified. It is difficult but there are no available and public records to beat it. The highest we could find was 416 from a game in India.
“We are making enquiries and could go to Guinness World Records to have it officially recognised.
“We didn’t know how close we were at the time, but just tried to get as many as we could.
“It was a bonkers game. It is a really good high level T20 competition. We are a Division 1 club in the West of England and Hatherley are top of the division below us.
“It is a very decent standard of cricket and it was a good wicket and a pink ball and chaos ensured. We chose to bat and just went from it from the start and were able to keep going.”
“Ewan was just smashing everything from the start. No matter what they threw at him he just kept hitting boundaries.
“I’ve genuinely never seen a game like it. It was just utterly ludicrous. It was bizarre seeing it all unfold. The ball just kept disappearing to the boundary.
“Once the batsmen got their eyes in, with the ball not moving, it was just constant.
“I think our previous high score was around 220 for a T20 game. To get more than 400 is genuinely extraordinary. It was completely out of the blue.”
Remarkably, the entertainment didn’t stop there. Hatherley & Reddings responded with an impressive 229, including 109 from Harry Bloomfield, meaning the match produced 646 runs in just 39.1 overs.
The match aggregate of 646 runs also appears to exceed previously reported records.
