The annual survey asks patients about everything from booking appointments and contacting their surgery to the quality of care they receive and how helpful reception staff are.

It is one of the most comprehensive measures of patient experience in the NHS and allows residents to compare their local practice against others in the area.

Tisbury Surgery came top of the Salisbury rankings, with 99 per cent of patients describing their overall experience of the practice as good.

Hindon Surgery was close behind on 97 per cent, followed by St Melor House Surgery on 95 per cent and The Orchard Partnership on 93 per cent.

Those four practices were stand-out performers across several categories, not just overall satisfaction.

Hindon Surgery achieved a perfect score for the ease of contacting the practice by phone, while patients also gave near-unanimous praise for appointments, confidence in healthcare professionals and the quality of care they received.

St Melor House Surgery also impressed patients, recording almost universal praise for its reception and administrative team.

Tisbury Surgery, meanwhile, combined the highest overall satisfaction rating with strong scores for appointments, continuity of care and pharmacy services.

The full table also shows that patients generally rate their care more highly than their ability to access it.

While some practices achieved impressive phone and digital access scores, others struggled.

Hindon Surgery recorded 100 per cent of patients saying it was easy to contact by phone, compared with 97 per cent at Tisbury Surgery and 90 per cent at St Melor House Surgery.

At the other end of the scale, Three Chequers Medical Practice recorded 42 per cent, Barcroft Medical Centre 43 per cent and Downton Surgery 52 per cent.

That contrast was a recurring theme throughout the survey.

Across many practices, patients expressed high levels of trust in healthcare professionals, felt listened to during appointments and said their needs were met.

However, getting through to surgeries remained a more mixed experience.

Even among the lower-ranked surgeries, though, most patients still described their overall experience positively.

Downton Surgery, which recorded the lowest overall satisfaction score in the Salisbury group, still saw 68 per cent of respondents rate their experience as good.

Harcourt Medical Centre and Barcroft Medical Centre both scored 74 per cent, while Salisbury Medical Practice achieved 81 per cent.

The survey also highlighted another local success story: pharmacy services.

Patients who had used pharmacies in the past year reported consistently high satisfaction levels, with Tisbury Surgery’s patients giving pharmacy services a 98 per cent positive rating and several other practices scoring in the mid-90s.

Overall, the findings suggest GP services across Salisbury remain well regarded by patients, particularly when it comes to the care delivered by doctors, nurses and other clinical staff.

The biggest differences between practices were less about the treatment patients received and more about how easy it was to access services in the first place.
