Filming has officially wrapped on the long-awaited seventh series of BBC’s Line of Duty, which first aired in 2012 and last appeared on screens in 2021.
Actress Vicky McClure, who plays DI Kate Fleming, confirmed the news in a joint Instagram post with co-star Martin Compston (DI Steve Arnott), alongside Adrian Dunbar (Superintendent Ted Hastings).
In the post, they wrote: “And we’re Off Duty!!
“The last 4 months spent with two of my best mates @mrmartincompston #adriandunbar.
“The brilliant cast & crew pulled out all the stops to bring @jed_mercurio script to life…thank you.
“Home time now, so can’t wait, missed my lot every single day.”
Fans flooded the comments with excitement, with one writing: “Well done. Buzzing to watch it,” while another said: “Something good to look forward to.”
A third simply asked: “Okay so drop the release date???”
Filming began in spring this year after the BBC confirmed in November 2025 that the series would return.
McClure and Compston were recently seen shooting heavily armed scenes in Belfast, with one dramatic sequence featuring an overturned car following a high-speed chase.
Production was temporarily paused earlier this month due to riots in Belfast.
The new series is once again written by Jed Mercurio.
This time, Central Police’s anti-corruption unit AC-12 has been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards.
The return of the show comes five years after its last episode, which left viewers with unanswered questions and a nation gripped by “H” fever.
Its intense interrogations, twist-filled plotting, and focus on police corruption have won critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase.
With expectations running high and its stars promising another gripping story, anticipation is set to build until the first episode finally airs.
