Results of the NHS GP Patient Survey 2026 show how patients rated their practices across a range of topics, including overall experience, how easy it is to contact the practice, and the helpfulness of reception and administration teams.

In this case, the figures show the proportion of patients who described their overall experience of their GP practice as “good” or better.

Gainford Surgery, in Gainford near Darlington, received the highest rating among the North East practices listed, with 100 per cent of patients saying their overall experience was good.

Of those who responded, 96 per cent described their experience as “very good”, while four per cent said it was “fairly good”.

Rockliffe Court Surgery, part of Darlington PCN, followed with 99 per cent of patients rating their overall experience positively.

At the practice, 91 per cent of patients said their experience was “very good”, while eight per cent said it was “fairly good”.

Greystoke Surgery in Morpeth rated third, with 98 per cent of patients describing their overall experience as good.

Sunniside Surgery, in Sunniside, Gateshead, recorded a 97 per cent good rating, made up of 88 per cent “very good” responses and nine per cent “fairly good” responses.

Several practices recorded overall good ratings of 96 per cent.

Southlands Medical Group, in Sunderland, saw 76 per cent of patients describe their experience as “very good”, while 21 per cent said it was “fairly good”.

Wooler Health, in Wooler, Northumberland, also recorded a 96 per cent good rating, with 83 per cent of patients saying their experience was “very good” and 13 per cent saying it was “fairly good”.

Silverdale Family Practice, South Heton, had 80 per cent of patients describe their experience as “very good”, while 16 per cent said it was “fairly good”.

Orchard Court Surgery in Darlington also recorded 96 per cent, with 73 per cent of patients rating their experience as “very good” and 23 per cent as “fairly good”.

Melrose Surgery in Billingham, had one of the strongest “very good” scores in the top 10, with 90 per cent of patients choosing that option.

The Horden Group Practice completed the top 10, with 96 per cent of patients rating their overall experience as good.

Gainford Surgery also had the highest proportion of patients saying their experience was “very good”, at 96 per cent.

Rockliffe Court Surgery followed with 91 per cent, while Melrose Surgery recorded 90 per cent and Sunniside Surgery recorded 88 per cent.

Rankings are based on the proportion of patients who answered “very good” and “fairly good” to the NHS GP Patient Survey 2026 question: “Overall, how would you describe your experience of your GP practice?”
