New Forest Wildlife Park has welcomed a new pair of European grey wolves, marking the first time the animals have been at the park since October 2024.

The arrival followed months of planning across three countries.

Jason Palmer, curator of collections at New Forest Wildlife Park, said: “Wolves are a highly complex social species and they are one of the most challenging species to keep well in captivity.

“We’ve always had the intention of bringing wolves back to the park and our visitors have been incredibly patient.”

The two wolves travelled from Belgium to Hampshire after bonding together in Belgium.

A two-year-old female came from the Reserve d’Animaux Sauvages in Belgium, and a one-year-old male from Parc Animalier de Sainte Croix in France.

Mr Palmer said: “We can’t wait for our visitors to meet them.”

The park now houses the only European grey wolves in Hampshire.

European breeding programmes aim to maintain genetic diversity and support conservation for long-term species survival.

The wolves join the park’s growing collection of apex predators, including Bodie the wolverine, and lynx sisters Tora and Inga who now live in a new enclosure.
