Last week, Warrington South Labour MP Sarah Hall spoke in Parliament to renew her plea for a new hospital, which she said is ‘urgently needed’.
This call has been echoed by Sarah Pochin, the Reform UK MP for Runcorn and Helsby, who made the plea in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
She said that much of the hospital estate covering the two boroughs has not been updated since the 1960s.
She also said that Warrington and Halton hospitals can ‘no longer cope’ to support what is a rapidly growing population.
Speaking in Westminster, Ms Pochin said: “Now that the capital spending plan has been published, can the minister confirm whether Warrington and Halton will receive the funding for a desperately needed new hospital?
“The existing hospital estate has not been substantially upgraded since the 1960s, and it can no longer cope with the capacity needed to serve the growing local population.
“Will he commit to delivering a modern hospital for the next generation, including residents of Runcorn and Helsby?”
An oral response was given by James Murray, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
He said: “We want to improve the NHS estate across the country, which is why we are increasing capital investment to £15billion pounds a year by 2028-28.
“In terms of the specific investment in her constituency, I am happy to write to her with further details.”
Speaking after the Parliamentary session, Ms Pochin added: “I asked the Health Minister to back a desperately needed new hospital for Halton and Warrington.
“Residents across Runcorn and Helsby deserve modern healthcare facilities that are fit for the next generation.”
