It’s understood Boro have been in talks with Blackpool and the left-back is expected to link up with the League One side.
Munroe joined Boro from Aston Villa in January but the young left-back only featured three times in the second half of last season.
Boro still have high hopes for Munroe moving forward but believe the 21-year-old would be best off playing regularly in the coming campaign.
Middlesbrough will strengthen their squad with a new left-back in the coming weeks, so opportunities would likely have been hard to come by again for Munroe this season.

Munroe was seen as a long-term signing and project when he joined Boro in January and he still has four years to run on his contract.
He previously starred on loan at Swindon Town, whose boss Ian Holloway described the defender as “one of the best future left-backs I have ever seen in my lifetime”.
Munroe wasn’t involved in Saturday’s friendly draw at Celtic and it’s understood Boro have been in talks with Blackpool to finalise a loan agreement. Tommy Smith is Middlesbrough’s loans manager, having taken up the role at the end of last year after he was forced to retire through injury.
Blackpool finished 13th in League One last season and boss Ian Evatt is now preparing for his first full campaign in charge.
Munroe only played 53 minutes of action last season after joining Boro and club officials want to ensure he doesn’t have a full campaign on the fringes when he could be benefiting from regular football elsewhere.
Boro are continuing in their efforts to strengthen at left-back, which is one of the priority areas for the recruitment team this summer. As reported by the Northern Echo earlier this week, Boro have been in talks with Columbus Crew over Max Arfsten, who has been a leading target since last summer.
