Liverpool have appointed Alejandro Rosalen as their new first-team goalkeeping coach.
The 49-year-old Spaniard joins Andoni Iraola’s backroom staff as a replacement for Xavi Valero, who stepped down at the end of last season after only 12 months.
Rosalen boasts a wealth of coaching experience having worked for Serie A outfit Napoli for the past five years. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Fiorentina and also had a spell in Hungary with Videoton. His coaching career started in his homeland at Valencia.
Meanwhile, young Liverpool goalkeeper Armin Pecsi won’t be part of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States as he’s on the brink of joining Austrian Bundesliga outfit TSV Hartberg on a season-long loan.
Liverpool are keen for the 21-year-old to gain regular senior experience with Hartberg beating off competition from a number of clubs in Switzerland and France.
Pecsi, who was an unused substitute at first-team level on five occasions in 2025-26, has impressed since joining Liverpool from Puskas Akademia last summer. A regular for the club at under-21s level, he made his senior international debut for Hungary against Kazakhstan last month.
Liverpool also announced the 31-man squad heading out to their tour of the U.S. There were few surprises, but the big disappointment was the absence of Jayden Danns, who is out with a hamstring injury. With the lack of forward options currently available to Iraola, this pre-season could have provided a real breakout opportunity for the 20-year-old.
Senior players Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Stefan Bajcetic and Hugo Ekitike are all travelling over to the U.S. to continue their rehabilitation from injuries.
18-year-old centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye, who signed for the club in January and was involved in a handful of matchday squads, has not been named in the travelling group as he is waiting on a visa, though the hope is that he will join up with the team eventually.
Some players involved in the World Cup will join up with the squad during the tour including Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, who are expected to link up with their teammates prior to Liverpool’s final two pre-season friendlies of their trip.
