The victorious Spanish side got their heroes welcome in Madrid after last night’s tense and dramatic victory over an ill-tempered Argentina side, as ITV News’ John Ray reports
Fifa will reportedly investigate Argentina‘s post-match conduct following a sore World Cup final defeat to newly-crowned champions Spain, according to the Press Association (PA).
Rodrigo Hernandez lifted the trophy with pride as his team touched down in Madrid, following a tense 1-0 win against Argentina at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
However, amongst the post-match celebrations there were signs of aggression on the pitch from the opposition on Sunday night.

Fifa is will internally investigate Argentina’s conduct after violence erupted following the final whistle of the World Cup Final, PA understands.
During the match, Leandro Paredes was shown a red card for violent conduct after grabbing and pushing Spain players – including Eric Garcia and Gavi.
Nahuel Molina attempted to knock over Rodri while the Manchester City midfielder was celebrating Spain’s win.
Enzo Fernandez was sent off with two yellow cards in 10 minutes after an altercation with the referee and for colliding with Spain’s Pau Cubarsi.
And, in an even more surprising turn of events, Argentina coach Roberto Ayala appeared to try to punch Spain’s Dani Olmo in the face.
The entire Argentina side turned their back on the trophy celebration while Spain lifted the World Cup.

According to PA, the match commissioner’s report will be reviewed within FIFA before they decide whether to proceed with a disciplinary against a player, and possibly the Argentinian FA (AFA).
ITV News has approached Fifa for a statement.
It is still not known whether Fifa is investigating Argentinian players after they held up a banner expressing Argentinian sovereignty over the Falkland Islands following their semi-final win against England.
This goes against tournament regulations, and in the 2024 Euros, one-match bans were imposed on Spain’s Rodri and Alvaro Morata after they chanted about Spain’s claims to Gibraltar.

As for the winners, Spain’s 26-man squad will be greeted by Spanish royalty and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before boarding an open-top bus for a parade through central Madrid.
Fans will line the streets as they travel from Moncloa Palace, the prime minister’s official residence, to Cibeles Square.

A ceremony with the players will then be held at the square, where previous Spanish national teams and their supporters have traditionally gathered to celebrate.
This is only the second time, after a 2010 victory in South Africa, that Spain has won the World Cup title.
They successfully managed to dethrone three-times-champion Argentina 1-0 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
