JLS singer Aston Merrygold and his young family have enjoyed a sunny day out splashing around at Newbury’s lido.

The boyband member, alongside wife Sarah Louise and their three children, have shared a fun family video of them enjoying the slides, splash park and soft play at Northcroft Leisure Centre.

The video, posted by dancer and choreographer Sarah Louise Merrygold this week, shows the couple’s three young children – sons Grayson and Macaulay and daughter Riley – making the most of West Berkshire’s 150-year-old outdoor pool and all it has to offer.

Describing the lido as a ‘great find thanks to insta’ Sarah wrote: “Summer fun has begun. And this was a great find thanks to insta

“@northcroftleisurecentre has such a fab lido with slides and little splash pad too.

“It’s part of the Everyone active group & I think there’s quite a few all around the country so hopefully one close to you.

“We had a 2 hour session but also went in the soft play which was big and empty and perfect for assault courses where we could beat each others times.”

The video, which sees the family riding the slides, flumes, tucking into ice creams and throwing giant balls around in the indoor soft play centre, has so far been ‘liked’ by more than 1,000 people.

Her chart-topping singer husband, who rose to fame in 2008 as one part of the boy band JLS after they were named runners-up on the X Factor, is among those to comment on the clip writing ‘a day was had’ followed by a heart face emoji.

Northcroft Leisure Centre is launching an extended timetable at the Lido over the summer to give residents more opportunities to enjoy what’s on offer.

Running from today (Wednesday, July 22) to Friday, September 4, the new summer timetable includes daytime family swimming on weekdays which will run Monday to Friday at 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.

Lane swimming will continue with morning slots starting at 6.30am on weekdays and 8am on Saturdays and Sundays while dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disability swim sessions will take place at new times on Mondays at 6pm to 7pm and Thursdays at 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

The programme, says Everyone Active, has been expanded to meet increased seasonal demand while people can enjoy the benefits of outdoor swimming during the warmer weather.

Richard May, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “We’re thrilled to announce our extended summer timetable at Northcroft Lido in time for the holiday season. Now is the perfect time to enjoy a refreshing swim outdoors, keep children active while they’re off school or just relax with family.”
