A punk rock band that rose to international fame in the 1970s has been honoured with a new artwork in their hometown.
Swindon band XTC, best known for their hits including Making Plans for Nigel and Senses Working Overtime, have attracted a global cult following despite having not toured since the 1980s.
The XhibitA sculpture was installed in Swindon’s Queen’s Park on Saturday after fans from around the world backed a fundraising campaign by local super fans Mike Smith and Graham Carter.
Former band member and drummer Terry Chambers said that it was “humbling” to be remembered so many years later, adding: “It’s something I never imagined. I’m stuck for words.”
