The application, submitted to Bolton Council by Bolton Golf Club, seeks permission for a single-storey extension to the club’s existing pro shop.
The development would house an indoor golf simulator, described in planning documents as a “modern teaching and training tool”, alongside additional storage space.
The proposal received a positive response from Horwich Town Council, with members welcoming investment in the long-established sporting venue.
The plans would see the extension built in materials matching the existing pro shop and situated within a cluster of existing buildings on the golf club grounds.
A supporting statement submitted with the application said: “The proposal is for an extension of the existing single-storey flat roof pro-shop for the inclusion of an indoor golf simulator.
“The proposals will use materials, style and appearance to match the existing pro-shop.
“The extension will sit within a cluster of existing buildings set within the golf complex away from significant public view.”
The applicant argues the development supports outdoor sport and recreation and complies with national planning policy relating to Green Belt land.
As part of the scheme, four lime trees would be planted along the access road to help meet biodiversity net gain requirements.
A landscape and visual impact assessment states that the extension would be built on an area of scrubland previously used for the storage of materials and waste and would have little visual impact from surrounding roads.
Established in 1912, Bolton Golf Club is one of the region’s oldest golf clubs and offers coaching, a clubhouse and professional golf facilities.
The proposed simulator would enable year-round coaching and practice opportunities regardless of weather conditions.
Bolton Council will make the final decision on the application following consultation and consideration of planning policies and the application can be viewed on the Council’s planning portal.
