Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess cut a frustrated figure after his side lost to Leigh Leopards in an ill-disciplined performance that saw them lack control.
Leigh won 28-10 with the Leopards comfortable for large parts of the game, though Burgess claimed that it was a scoreline that didn’t reflect how tight the match was.
Speaking post-match to Sky Sports, Burgess admitted: “It’s one of those games. I thought the scoreline probably didn’t reflect the game, or how tight the game was.
“They started fast and put some points on us early and I think we should have been 12 down but we were and then we wrestled our way back into the game.”
He added: “Frustration is probably not the word. In that second half, I thought we started with great spirit.
“We just couldn’t get any points, and then after the sin binning, I think we conceded five penalties, we completed 56% in the second half, so it was pretty tricky.”
Warrington Wolves with plenty to tidy up
That ill-discipline went further as Leon Hayes was sin binned meaning Warrington were unable to take advantage of Josh Charnley’s sin bin, and from that point on Leigh extended their lead and took control.

When asked if he felt that it was more a case of ill discipline or just the ‘rub of the green’ going against them, Burgess wouldn’t be sucked in to comment.
He responded: “I’m not going to comment on those things. You know how I feel about all of that but it’s just the way it goes.
“Momentum changes and things just didn’t go our way. We didn’t handle it very well and then we’re chasing a scoreboard, (and with) 56% completion it’s too hard.
“I’m very proud of my team, plenty of effort, just we’ve got a bit to tidy up, but we’ll be sore after today, I think.”
As for how he feels his side are sat for the final run-in, Burgess gave a short and sweet answer: “Yeah, good. Looking forward to the run home.”
