Jacob Gordon claimed a five-wicket haul to help Bishop’s Stortford win by 55 runs at West Herts in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League, Premier Division on Saturday (July 25).
His efforts with the ball came as the hosts slumped from 157-2 to 184 all out in the wake of the visitors posting 239 all out.
Stortford were asked to bat after losing the toss and found themselves 9-2 in the eighth over.
The wicket proved difficult for batsmen until they were established, but Billy Mead and Daniel Smith steadied the ship and took the score to 92 before the former was adjudged LBW for an excellent 55.
Smith then shared partnerships worth 56 and 51 with Adam Bassingthwaighte (28) and Gordon (32) respectively before being caught and bowled by Priyamal Perera for 81 in the 53rd over.
Joe Burslem chipped in with a quick 25 off 17 balls to get his side up to 239 from 60 overs, with Perera ending with 4-66.
West Herts progressed well in reply as they reached 51 without loss, 102-1 and 157-2 thanks to the efforts of danger men Arjun Patel (69) and Perera (54).
But wickets tumbled thanks to excellent bowling by all the spinners and the hosts were removed for 184 in 47.5 overs.
Gordon took 5-17, Ben Twohig claimed 3-47 and there was a wicket each for Dom Clutterbuck and Simon Lindop.
Tom Howes led the charge as the second team secured a seven-wicket home victory over Eversholt in Division 2B.
The visitors won the toss and batted first, with both openers scoring 31 before being dismissed by Austin Osborne and Travis Hussain.
Only Abdul Asad (38) then put up any resistance as Eversholt were all out for 159 in the 40th over.
Matt Fisk (4-26) had most success with the ball while Osborne, Hussain and Daniel Laskey all took two wickets apiece.
Howes then struck 74 in the run chase as Stortford reached 165-3 in the 38th over.
Fellow opener Hussain made 32 and there were unbeaten knocks of 31 and 18 from Cam Krauth and Benji Furrer respectively.
Harry Frans bagged six wickets as the third team won by 40 runs at Thaxted in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.
Stortford batted first and posted 201 all out thanks to contributions from Pratyush Shukla (63) and Tim Bennet (24) along with Frans’ late and undefeated 36.
Frans then completed a man-of-the-match performance by taking 6-39 as Thaxted were dismissed for 161 in the 27th over, with two wickets each for Ed Cowley and Jack Fraser-Andrews.
And it was a clean sweep for the club as centuries from Jessie Hollard and Fred Hussain ensured the fourth team thrashed Nazeing Common II by 127 runs in Division Two.
Hollard remained unbeaten on 123 and fellow opener Hussain made 129 as they put on 240 for the first wicket in a total of 310-5.
Sasi Amudalapa (65) and Chris James (41) put up some resistance for the visitors, but they were all out for 183.
Adi Dua took 4-30, Toby Lloyd got 2-15 and there was one wicket apiece for Kieran Wilson-Pratt, Arthur Howes, Fraaz Ahmed and Ankur Malik.
