Huddersfield Giants boss Jim Lenihan has offered an update on half-back Oli Leyland’s future at the club, after the former Warrington man landed a trial at the West Yorkshire outfit.
Leyland was confirmed to have departed the Wolves earlier this month, but in the week before that, he was named among Huddersfield’s reserves team, which is where the speculation of an exit originally came from.
He has played two games for the Giants’ B-team since then, featuring in a 50-6 win over St Helens before an 82-14 loss to Hull KR.
Despite the 25-year-old being in and around the Giants’ first-team training, Lenihan has revealed that no offer has been made regarding a full-time deal.
Clarifying Leyland’s position, Lenihan said to the press: “No real decision’s happened on Oli at the moment.
“He’s mixed in with the group really well. He’s been a great addition to the training group, and he’s doing really good work when we’re doing our opposed work.
“He’s a real little handful. He’s been good for us at the moment and he’s just sort of sitting there waiting for an opportunity if it comes up.”

Huddersfield Giants boss issues rallying call ahead of Catalans Dragons clash
Last week, it was confirmed that Huddersfield would make entry to their upcoming home game against Catalans Dragons free of charge, in a bid to get as many fans into the Accu Stadium as possible.
That game will take place on Saturday 8 August, and will also be the day that the Giants confirm their stadium plans for 2027. Huddersfield will leave the Accu Stadium at the end of the season, and as of now there is currently no certainty regarding where they will call home next season.
With attendance the key for that game, Lenihan has implored the people of Huddersfield to go along and support their own on what will be a historic day for the club.
He said: “Definitely come out. I think it’s an exciting time for Huddersfield.
“We’re working really hard at what we’re doing on the football field to change and become a really competitive side in Super League.
“I’ve gone on record before saying the club itself off the football field is doing a lot of great work, and unfortunately, the club as a whole gets judged on what happens in the shop window with performances on the weekend.
“But as I’ve said, the work that’s going on behind the scenes, as I’ve said, the manager is on our shirts. The sponsors have doubled in money coming into the club when we’re at our lowest point.
“There is a lot of good work going on here. There’s a lot of good people working in the background trying to get the club where it should be, and it’s up to us on the football field to make sure that also happens and we start getting the results going in the right way.
“So certainly come out and watch the game against Catalans and follow what’s going on here.”
