Ted’s Crazy Golf will open at the Westgate on Thursday, August 13, promising a ‘quirky’ experience inspired by the Americana, cult movies, comedy horror and pop culture of the 1980s and 90s.
The experience will retain the two nine-hole courses and large scale installations of its predecessor, but will be operated by new owners and bring a new theme to the venue.

Clare Martin, centre director at Westgate Oxford, said: “Ted’s Crazy Golf is an exciting new addition for us, providing guests with a unique experience that cannot be found elsewhere in the city.
“The opening strengthens our selection of leisure experiences for visitors of all ages, giving families even more reasons to visit Westgate Oxford as the perfect day out this summer.
“We look forward to welcoming Ted’s Crazy Golf when the venue opens next month.”
The business was founded by Larissa Houghton and Christopher Legh, founders of experience-led hospitality company Anger Mgmt Venues.

Ms Houghton said: “We are so excited to bring Ted’s Crazy Golf to Oxford and let people step inside the world we have created.
“This is a place that has come completely from our imagination.
“We wanted to build somewhere that feels fun, weird, nostalgic and full of surprises, where people walk in and feel like they have stepped through a portal into another dimension.”

The concept is inspired by the story of Ted Montgomery, a Californian who ran a unique crazy golf course in the late 1980s, themed on his collection of comedy-horror memorabilia including animatronics, movie posters, creepy toys, carnival props and other oddities.

The Oxford venue, with Ted’s permission, is brining back to life this original idea with a set imagined by the business founders and designed by a team of artists.
The first of the two courses, Bad Bones, transports players to a gothic graveyard filled with talking gargoyles, skeletons, serpents, and zombie hands.
The second, Fun House, offers a surreal fairground experience complete with a warped hall of mirrors and a carousel.
The main bar area is styled as a 1980s diner, serving retro cocktails, milkshakes, pizzas, hot dogs, and ice-cream floats.

The experience is billed as having something for everyone, from date nights to work socials, nights out with friends to family days out.
Tickets will be available to book online, with walk-ins also welcome, and updates shared on the new venue’s website and social media accounts, and the venue will be open Thursday to Sunday for afternoons and evenings.
Junkyard Golf has not given a reason for its Oxford branch’s closure, and has been approached for comment.
