“We are there to do a job”: Ben Allison dials in ahead of Essex clash
After a helter-skelter start to the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup, Sunday’s trip to face Essex is arguably the most exciting one yet for Worcestershire seamer Ben Allison.
The 26-year-old has become a central figure at New Road since joining in the winter of 2024, establishing himself as a potent part of the Worcestershire armoury.
After finishing last season as the leading wicket taker in the One Day Cup with an impressive 19 scalps to his name, the right-arm seamer endured a frustrating start to 2026, with injury delaying his season by over two months.
Fit and firing once again and fresh off Friday’s impressive win over Middlesex, Sunday will see Allison return to the ground he once called home having started his career at Chelmsford.
Despite spending five years on the East coast, Worcestershire’s quick has no issues in putting emotions to one side once he gets the ball in his hand.
“I enjoyed a good few years there. Of course, I have some good memories and there is a lot of familiar faces there who I look forward to catching up with.
“That was a while ago now though, and I feel like a lot has changed since then, so I am really excited to show what I can do when I get the chance.
“We have made a good start to the tournament again, and ultimately, we are there to do a job on Sunday.
“It isn’t about anything else really other than doing our thing, worrying about ourselves and all of the boys doing what we know we can do and executing our jobs.
“If we do that like we know we can, we will give ourselves a great shot against anyone.”
