Before Covid Bubb explained there were 11 centres, but one by one they shut down as people “couldn’t afford to keep the doors open”.
Despite this, she said, interest in the sport was growing – especially following the introduction of skateboarding to the Olympic Games.
“It’s all terrain, all weathers, any time, any place – it’s one of the best sports,” she said.
“It’s the first board sport anyone should learn because we teach you how to turn and stop, when [in] a lot of the other sports you don’t have that option.”
While the closure of so many other centres has been bad news for the sport, it does mean Gloucestershire has become a hub for those at the top of their game.
