As the minutes ticked down towards
08:00, a quiet tension settled over the library at All Saints Secondary School in
Glasgow.

It’s always strange for the pupils who agree to be part of our
BBC coverage, undergoing this moment of pure tension with all of our cameras
and microphones pointed at them – probably just adding to the layers of nerves.

But when the emails started to drop, they melted into smiles and relief.

Laith, who is 18, got 4 As at Higher level, meaning he is off to study law at
Glasgow Caledonian University.

He said: “I’m so proud of myself, just kind of
speechless because I worked so hard.”

Gift hopes to go on to study psychology

Gift, aged 16, got 4 As and 2 Bs in her Highers.

She will return to school for one more year before
hopefully going on to study psychology at university.

“It was super scary, super anxious,” she says. “Then the moment the email came
in, I was over the moon.”
