Rachel George, an adult nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), was the subject of a Fitness to Practise Committee hearing in July 2026 over her agency work at Ferns Nursing Home between February and May 2020.
At the time, Rachel George was already under an Interim Conditions of Practice Order, which limits the duties and responsibilities she can carry out following a previous disciplinary process.
The order limited her to one substantive employer, banning agency work, and prohibited her from being the nurse in charge of any shift and required supervision when administering medication.
Ferns Nursing Home in Yeovil was run by Almondsbury Care Limited. It closed in 2022 following a poor CQC report, and the site has since become a residential HMO.
The panel found that, despite those conditions restricting her work, Mrs George worked several agency shifts at Ferns. This included taking on roles she was explicitly barred from, such as being the nurse in charge on one or more occasions, carrying out medication rounds alone using her own trolley.
The panel also ruled she failed to disclose the existence and full details of her Interim Conditions of Practice Order both when applying for a permanent post and while employed at the home. She only admitted to restrictions on dismissal from the role, after initially denying them.
Applying the legal test for dishonesty, the panel concluded Mrs George knew she was subject to conditions yet chose to conceal them, and that “by the standards of ordinary decent people, Mrs George’s conduct would be regarded as dishonest.”
Her behaviour was judged a serious breach of the NMC Code, putting vulnerable residents at risk of harm and potentially undermining trust in the profession.
Finding her fitness to practise currently impaired, the panel imposed a striking-off order, meaning Mrs George has been removed from the nursing register.
An interim suspension order for 18 months was also made to cover the appeal period. The hearing was held by the Nursing and Midwifery Council between Monday, July 20 and Friday, July 24.
