The year-long Ryder Cup qualifying period to make Luke Donald’s team at Adare Manor will begin later this month…
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That, it seems, also applies to the Ryder Cup qualifying process.
That’s because Ryder Cup Europe and Luke Donald have decided to stick with the same tried and tested system that determined the automatic qualifiers for the 2023 and 2025 matches in Rome and New York respectively.
That means six players will automatically qualify for the 46th matches at Adare Manor next year, while Donald will once again have six captain’s picks.
The year-long process will begin at the Husqvarna British Masters, which takes place at The Belfry at the end of this month, and will conclude on August 22, 2027. Donald will then reveal his picks on August 30, 2027.
The Englishman, who will be looking to complete an unprecedented hat-trick in Ireland, said: “The start of qualification is always a notable milestone in the Ryder Cup journey, so I am delighted to today confirm details of our process for the 2027 European team.
“We have a lot of talented European players at the moment, some with Ryder Cup experience and others who will be trying to qualify for the first time. I am therefore really looking forward to seeing them compete to qualify for Team Europe over the next 12 months.
“Next year’s Ryder Cup at Adare Manor promises to be very special for so many different reasons. It will be the 100-year anniversary of the Ryder Cup and we will have the support of the Irish crowds, who are among the best in the world. Those factors will only add to the motivation of our European players to ensure they are part of it.”
2027 Ryder Cup qualifying
Each DP World Tour member can earn Ryder Cup qualification points from all Race to Dubai Ranking tournaments between this year’s Husqvarna British Masters, which begins on August 27, 2026, and whichever tournament concludes on August 22, 2027.
He can also earn points from all events allocared PGA Tour FedEx Cup points between January 1, 2027 and whichever tournament concludes on August 22, 2027.
The points allocation will be banded as follows:
Band 1: DP World Tour Global Series events and PGA Tour opposite-field events – 1,000 points
Band 2: DP World Tour Back 9 events – 1,500 points
Band 3: DP World Tour Rolex Series events and PGA Tour regular FedEx Cup events – 2,000 points
Band 4: PGA Tour Signature Events, The Players, and FedEx Cup Playoffs events – 3,000 points
Band 5: Major championships – 5,000 points
