A Devon man has described the “amazing experience” he had witnessing a huge pod of dolphins swimming off the Devon coast.
Ben Corser was treated to the spectacle while out on his boat off the coast of Budleigh Salterton at around 11am this morning (August 7).
He estimated that the pod consisted of 40 dolphins which swam around his boat for around an hour heading in the direction of Torquay. Ben, who lives in Exmouth, said: “I’ve seen dolphins before but never seen them stick with us for that long, it was an amazing experience.”
Footage of the dolphins shows them swimming beside his boat and surfacing out of the water.
It’s not the first time dolphins have been spotted off the coast of Budleigh Salterton.
Just last month, kayaker Peter Williams witnessed a huge pod of dolphins “aggressively” feeding off the coast between Budleigh Salterton and Ladram Bay.
Peter said he initially thought they were tuna, as he has previously seen them feeding in the water, and decided to paddle out “as quickly as we could towards the splashes” to get a closer look.
However, as he came closer to reaching the source, he soon realised that it was not what he first thought.
