U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with UK Foreign Secretary Miliband on August 5, 2026, for talks focused on major international security challenges and the U.S.–UK partnership.

According to the U.S. State Department readout, the discussions addressed the war in Ukraine and European security, including the importance of continued transatlantic cooperation and European efforts to assume greater responsibility for regional security.

The two officials also discussed developments in the Middle East, including Iran and maritime security. Their talks included efforts to ensure safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz and the shared objective of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The meeting underscored continued coordination between Washington and London on Ukraine, NATO and Middle East security as the two allies confront a range of international challenges.
