The Independence Day Tri Series will take place at Meikleriggs on Sunday, featuring teams representing Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India.
This event forms part of M8Driving Ferguslie Cricket Club’s wider weekend of fixtures and promises a full day of fast-paced action, beginning at 10.30am and running into the evening.

Fareed Hussain, one of the event’s organisers, said: “The event has grown in popularity in the last few years as India and Pakistan have locked horns in deadly, but friendly, rivalry.
“This year, Afghanistan has been invited to take part, and we’re thus increasing the range of interest over and participation in what has been traditionally a wonderful day of brotherhood and great sport within the various cricketing fraternities.
“We’re hoping that spectators will turn out in force for what we’re sure will be no different an occasion from the spectacular sport we have seen in previous years.
“It’s a great opportunity for cricket lovers throughout Renfrewshire and beyond to witness some of the finest exponents of cricket in action on their doorstep.”
Fareed explained that the Tri Series is a celebration of independence as well as a recognition of Scottish heritage.
He said: “We’ve had massive interest from players of all three of the countries involved wanting to take part in an event which celebrates their independence while recognising their Scottish heritage.
“The teams will feature some of the best players available from local teams within the Western District Championship Union and further afield.
“Spectators are advised not to be late, as the cream of cricket-playing talent from the three nations display their skills on the field at Meikleriggs.
“We’re confident the attendance at this very special event will reflect the quality of those taking part and give them an unforgettable day.”
The teams will include familiar cricketing names such as Muhaymen Majeed and Ibrahim Faisal for Pakistan, Zainullah Ihsan and Pashtoon Barak for Afghanistan, and Asifullah Khan and former Ferguslie professional Mekyle Pillay for India.
Team managers include Taral Khasiya for India, former Ferguslie batter Bahadar Esakhiel for Afghanistan, and home favourite Haroon Tahir for Pakistan.

John Docherty, president of Ferguslie Cricket Club, said the event reflects the club’s ethos of community engagement.
He said: “We like to think of our club as one which goes into the community we serve and encourages people to take part in and watch active sport, and this event is one where in previous years the various communities have taken up that opportunity in ever-increasing numbers, making it a highlight of our sporting calendar in the process.”
The schedule is: 10.30am Pakistan vs Afghanistan, 2pm India vs Pakistan, followed by lunch, and 5.30pm India vs Afghanistan.
Admission is free and spectators will also be able to enjoy free food following the second game.
The top team at the end of the tournament will be awarded the Independence Cup.
