Super League disciplinary results see Wigan Warriors pair banned as another lands four-game blow

Wigan Warriors have seen two players banned after round 22 of Super League as a total of three players have been banned amid 13 charges from this week’s disciplinary verdict.

Both Brad O’Neill and Sam Walters have picked up bans for their actions in the win over Toulouse with second-rower Walters copping a two-match ban as a result of his previous misdemeanours.

Walters, who actually only received a Grade B charge compared to O’Neill’s Grade C, is only three games returned from a monster seven-match ban, and it’s that previous bad record that has ensured he misses the next two matches.

Handed a Grade B charge for other contrary behaviour, those three penalty points were enough to take the towering forward over the threshold for a two-game ban, meaning he will miss out against Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity.

Brad O’Neill will miss the first of those matches after he was handed a Grade C charge for a dangerous throw/lift, something that he was sin binned for at the time.

The other ban this week goes to Catalans’ Franck Maria for his red card offence of a shoulder charge with the Frenchman handed a Grade E charge, enough to land him a four-match ban, thus ruling him out for all but one of the remaining fixtures this year.

Ten other players were charged but none banned with the majority of those charges being Grade Bs, as well as a couple of Grade A charges. Hull KR’s Sauaso Sue, who is expected to sit out this week’s game against Catalans, landed a Grade A charge that took him close to a ban as the only other notable charge.
