Fateh Singh says his team will be doing everything they can to pull off “something special” and rescue qualification from Group B of the Metro Bank One Day Cup in a grandstand final day against Durham.
The 2025 tournament champions have it all to do if they are to keep their title defence alive, after a last-ball defeat to Glamorgan on Sunday put the Rapids behind the pace, falling into fifth place with one game to play.
The blemishes on the road have proved costly in a hotly contested 2026 competition, where losses to Yorkshire, Essex and Glamorgan have made Worcestershire outsiders for the quarter-final stages.
However, all is not lost for the holders, who can still escape the group by sweeping Durham aside by enough runs to increase their net run-rate higher than both Hampshire and Durham, and hope for a slip-up by the Hawks who are required to drop points if the Rapids are to progress.
Despite the permutations, Singh says his side will take the positive approach and give it their all.
“We do have to change our mindset a little bit because we know going into tomorrow, we are going to have to do something special against Durham to go through.
“It is more than just another game for sure.
“So, I think you have to go into the game with a bit of an aggressive mindset and show why we are the champions, what we can do and how we can overturn them.
“If you have anything that doesn’t go your way, you have got to get rid of it, and you’ve got to snap right back into the right frame for the next chance, and that’s what tomorrow will look like,
“We come back tomorrow, regroup, and we go hard.
“It’s been touched on a lot about this team defending the title and this group being defending champions and we are proud of the tag that comes with that.”
