After some behind-the-scenes photos were leaked online, we now have our first official look at the live-action remake of Tangled. And in even better news, Disney has confirmed when the film will be released.
The musical fantasy is based on the 2010 animation of the same name, and follows Rapunzel as she tries to leave her secret tower. Given she has an abundance of hair, it’s not an easy feat.
After being announced in December 2024, production for the live-action remake was paused in April 2025 following the underperformance of Snow White at the box office, though it promptly resumed in October.

Now, with filming already being under way, Disney unveiled its official first-look at the D23 Expo on Friday (14 August), and also confirmed that the film would hit the big screen on 31 March 2028.
As part of the showpiece, Kathryn Hahn was featured in a clip as the villainous Mother Gothel. The actor, known for playing Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also took to the stage at the event.
“I love playing Mother Gothel. She’s stunning, hilarious, fab, kind [and] generous to a fault,” quipped the star (via Variety). “[She] might be overprotective, but that’s because she cares so much.”
The teaser clip, which hasn’t yet been made available online, reportedly begins with a shot of Rapunzel, who is played in the film by Teagan Croft. It then cuts to Hahn as Mother Gothel, who is seemingly already up to her schemes.
The film is being directed by Michael Gracey, who is best known for The Greatest Showman and Better Man. The screenplay is being co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor, while Milo Manheim and Diego Luna also star.

There were also plenty of announcements from Marvel, with the principal cast for the X-Men reboot being confirmed. There was also a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, while Hugh Jackman teased that he may appear in the superhero film.
Tangled is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 31 March 2028.
