Chelsea are reportedly planning to spend big if Enzo Fernandez is sold this summer.

Manchester City remain interested in signing the Argentina international despite failing to meet Chelsea’s Friday deadline for a £120m bid. The Blues have since insisted Fernandez is no longer available, but with two weeks still remaining in the transfer window, the situation could yet change.

And should Chelsea sanction a late sale, they are not expected to settle for a low-cost replacement. According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, the club would target a high-profile midfielder to fill the void, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi among the names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s stance on Fernandez remains clear, but the possibility of a blockbuster replacement suggests they are already considering what life without their midfield star could look like.
