Coronation Street’s Nathan Sussex has teased a big Christmas storyline for his character Richie Parkinson. The newcomer recently arrived on the cobbles as the cousin of cabbie Tim Metcalfe.
At first, Richie seemed like a normal, easy-going bloke who was struggling with some marriage problems. However, in a shocking twist, he was later arrested for the murder of his wife Rachel – much to Tim’s horror.

After being taken in by Tim and Sally, Richie’s daughter Lucy insisted her dad had acted in self-defence, suggesting there’s more to the story than meets the eye. According to Sussex, the drama will continue to play out until the festive period.
“When you get a job like this, they kind of tell you the story arc. But, of course, because it’s a new storyline, I only know stuff up until a certain period,” he said, during an interview with BBC Radio Wales.
“I’ve been kind of given sort of a brief [that] this is what could happen, but I don’t know myself.
Though he remained coy about the exact details, the actor hinted that he would still be around in four months time for the hugely-anticipated run-up to Christmas, which he described as “the dream”.
“All I know is it’s quite a big Christmas hook, and you know the dream, I would love to be in Coronation Street on Christmas Day.”

“While you’re tucking into your Ferrero Rochers or your Roses, yes, I’ll be on your screens. I don’t know. Perhaps. Isn’t that the dream?”
He added: “To be there, like doing a job there, walking down these famous cobbles, honestly, it really gets to you.
“Corrie means so much to so many people. It is a national institution. We’ve all grown up on it at some point in our lives.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
