Former Wakefield Trinity hooker Tommy Doyle has agreed a deal to stay in Super League and has made a permanent switch with immediate effect.
Doyle will join York Knights for the rest of the 2026 campaign and will remain at the club for 2027 as well.
The hooker, who has been ravaged by injuries in the past 20 months, only recently departed Trinity, doing so on a mutual basis as he looked to pursue a contract elsewhere.
Spending three seasons at Wakefield, he was a key part of their Championship-winning season in 2024, before long-term blows limited him to a total of seven Super League appearances, though two of those came at Bradford Bulls recently.
Coming through the ranks at Bradford, the 27-year-old moved to Keighley Cougars in 2023, where he made his name and put himself in the shop window for a move to Trinity.
Doyle will hope that a new club in the top flight will bring new fortune, though with Paul McShane, Tom Inman and Denive Balmforth all performing well this year, he will certainly have to prove he is worthy of a spot.
Next year, his path to the first team will open up a bit more, with Balmforth moving back to parent club Hull FC.

Tommy Doyle lands Super League move after Wakefield Trinity exit
Commenting on his new venture, Doyle said: “I’m buzzing to be joining York for the final stretch of the Super League season.
“My main focus now is to hit the ground running, give absolutely everything to the club, and finish the year as strongly as possible. There is clearly a great group of lads here who are hungry to push themselves, and I can’t wait to be a part of that!”
Knights head coach, Mark Applegarth, said: “I’m really glad ‘Doyley’ has signed and I’m looking forward to working with him. I signed him for Wakefield and never actually got the chance to work with him.
He’s a tough no nonsense player that’s hungry to improve and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
