Figures show Iranian households had sufficient income to cover their expenses in the year to March.

Results of a survey published by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) show that households in the country had sufficient finances to cover their consumption needs in the calendar year to late March.

SCI figures covered in a Sunday report by the IRNA news agency showed that the average household income in Iran was around 3.4 billion rials (nearly $5,000 calculated on average currency prices) in the past calendar year, up 34% from the year to March 2024.

The figures showed that average household expenditure in Iran had risen by 30% in the year to late March to reach 2.7 billion rials.

The data, obtained from a survey which covered some 39,000 families in Iranian cities and villages, showed that average household income in the northern province of Tehran, where the capital in located, were the highest in the country last calendar year with nearly 5 billion rials, while lowest incomes were reported in the western province of Ilam with an average of nearly 2.15 billion rials.

Tehran was also the most expensive province in Iran in the year to March, with an average household expenditure of around 4 billion rials, while Semnan, located in central Iran, was the cheapest province at more than 1.53 billion rials.

The SCI said that food accounted for 24% of costs in an Iranian household during the calendar year to late March, adding that meat was responsible for nearly a quarter of the family’s food expenses over the period.

Housing, fuel, and electricity topped the list of non-food expenses in an Iranian household last year, said the statistics agency.
