A Worcestershire-born cyclist has claimed the combativity award on the fifth and final stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women.
Worcester’s Alice Towers was given the title after organisers acknowledged her as the most aggressive and attacking rider on the day.
The thousands of spectators in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, watched on as she joined an early breakaway group alongside two other riders, building a gap of more than two minutes.
But the Great Britain National Team racer was caught within the final kilometre of the race, with Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes taking the stage win in Leamington Spa.
But despite the narrow loss, Towers said: “It was nice to be ahead of the peloton, just to hear all the crowds.
“I just heard so many shouts for my name so thanks to everyone that came out to watch.
“I was born in Worcester so I have my grandparents here, my mum, my dad, my dogs.
“It’s really nice to feel the home support.”
