Hull KR will not make the play-offs if they continue playing as they did on Saturday with Willie Peters even admitting that they may not win another game if they were to perform to that level.

The Robins lost 32-12 against Toulouse, suffering a third home loss of the season, and a second inside a matter of days after defeat to Warrington on Tuesday night.

With St Helens having won earlier on Saturday, it now leaves Hull KR just two points ahead and with the Robins having to travel to face Saints in the final round of the season, it’s fair to say there is cause for concern at Craven Park.

Willie Peters is surely among those, admitting post-match to BBC Radio Humberside: “If we play like we did today, we probably won’t get there. You probably don’t win another game and then you rely on another result.

“I’m not even thinking about finals at the moment because the way we’re playing at the moment and the way we’re in this block period at the moment, it’s difficult.”

Hull KR have a vastly superior points difference to St Helens so the Red Vee would likely need to win one more game than the Robins, and both sides have tough run-ins.

Peters added: “If we did make the semis and we’re playing like that, you’re out the back door pretty quick. I’m not looking too far ahead, really not. I just want to make sure that we can get a team together that’s going to go to Wigan next week, which is the toughest ask of any away game, I’d say.

“I need to look at the game, but it just looked a really, really flat performance, tired performance and we were ill-disciplined at the same time, so that’s the part we need to get right.”

Not only was it a costly defeat in terms of play-off chances, Rovers also saw three key players go down with injuries.

Peters had noted Dean Hadley and James Batchelor when speaking to Sky Sports, but he offered further detail when speaking in his presser as he confirmed that Hadley looks to have suffered a groin injury, whilst Batchelor had suffered a hamstring blow.

Perhaps even more significant was that Ryan Hampshire, who is the senior half in the team amid Tyrone May’s injury absence and Mikey Lewis’ suspension, had suffered what was thought to be a broken wrist, thus casting huge doubt over the halves selection against Wigan Warriors.

Such an injury record led to the question of player welfare, with Rovers having played three games in just ten days.

Peters said: “I don’t want to go into that. Look, we’ve just lost, and I’ve said internally, it needs to be looked at, but I’m not going to go into all that now, because then I’m a coach that’s a spitting his dummy, so to speak.

“It’s a tough period, it’s a really, really tough period, off the back of what we’ve done. It’s been a crazy year in terms of the players. Our team has played every single week and we’re doing everything we can to try and minimise loads and make sure that they’re fresh as they can, so you can only control that.

“Players have got to control what they can when they’re away but look, it’s outrageous, it really is, to play four games in 15 days.”
