Martin said the straight red card shown to Skipp in the 29th minute for his dangerously high tackle on Curtis Tilt forced his side into “a nothing to lose mentality”.
Wes Burns pulled a goal back before the break, but it was as good as it got for a side that had already got a jolt on their League One return when held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Notts County a week earlier.
“We’ve already watched the goals back as a group and highlighted bits that we don’t want to be us,” Martin said immediately after the loss against the Brewers.
“We have to make sure that is our worst 25 minutes of the season.”
Leicester’s attention quickly turns to their Carabao Cup tie against Ipswich Town, the side that won promotion to the Premier League alongside the Foxes in 2024 before coming back down with them a year later.
But, while Ipswich bounced back with immediate promotion, there is now an entire division that separates the two sides after Leicester slid to successive relegations.
Martin said changes for the match will be inevitable and added the performances will determine who he turns to in their next League One game at MK Dons on Saturday.
“I expect some people to come into the team and be really hungry to stake a claim for the shirt because after today there will be opportunities,” he said.
“And I expect the guys that played today that are playing Tuesday to really want to put things right and feel better about themselves than they do today.”
