As you go deeper into the season, it becomes easier and easier to suffer a season-ending issue due to just how few games are left but it doesn’t make them any easier to tolerate, as Super League contenders Warrington Wolves have found out.

Wire saw off Huddersfield Giants on Sunday to wrap up their fourth win in 15 days, however, that third win over Hull KR is the one that came at a big cost as forward Toff Sipley has fractured his leg, thus ending his year.

He of course didn’t play on Sunday and nor did Ewan Irwin, who is still feeling the effects of the kick charge down by Mikey Lewis with Burgess noting the teen as ‘day to day’ when speaking post-match.

As for those who played in that game, Max Wood had a possible rolled ankle but Wire did come through relatively unscathed. They just unfortunately could not say the same for Tuesday’s win over Hull KR.

Another team fearing season-ending injuries, though unable to confirm them immediately post-match, are Wakefield as Oli Pratt went down with a hamstring issue again, whilst Matty Storton suffered an MCL injury.

Friday night also saw injuries sustained in the other game with Leigh’s David Armstrong set for scans on his knee and veterans Josh Charnley and Matty Davis both picked up soft tissue issues.

As for their opponents Bradford, they were hit even harder and could have four miss out next week against Toulouse. Ethan Ryan [broken thumb], Joe Keyes [back], Dan Russell [HIA] and Loghan Lewis [knee] all picked up injuries in the game, whilst Zac Fulton [neck] didn’t play and could be done for the season.

Hull KR were also hit hard as they lost three more players to injury with Dean Hadley [groin], Ryan Hampshire [suspected broken wrist] and James Batchelor [hamstring] all going down, meaning Willie Peters will be short on troops for Thursday night against Wigan Warriors.

FC’s James Bell was the victim of a hip drop-style tackle and was left limping as he finished the game, but two others who couldn’t finish their game were Leeds pair Jake Connor and Cameron Smith.

Both came off after picking up knocks with Connor a calf concern and Smith a quad concern ahead of Friday’s game against St Helens.
