EastEnders’ Amy Mitchell breathes a sigh of relief when there is a major update in Joel Marshall’s case. After returning to Albert Square following his stint in young offenders, Joel was lured from a party by Amy, Avani Nandra-Hart, Denzel Danes, Nugget Gulati, Ricky Branning, Lily Slater, and Barney Mitchell.

They tied him to railings and poured beer on him while filming the ordeal, before leaving him. Later, when Barney and Will Mitchell urged the group to check on him, they found him with a severe head injury. An investigation was launched into what happened to Joel, who kept his mouth shut about what the teens had done to him.

Mystery surrounded the case until Amy admitted to shady police officer Craig Ingram that it was her who hit Joel around the head with the hammer.

Tonight’s (24 August) episode began with Amy and Yolande Trueman handing out flyers for an event helping to find a stem cell match for Denise Fox.

Amy later ran into Craig walking through the market, troubled after overhearing Denise is using a ventilator now, which Denzel Danes saw and appeared worried after seeing her so clearly distressed.

Denzel approached Amy in the cafe, asking how she was doing. She admitted she wasn’t doing well and that she “can’t lose” Denise, while Denzel comforted her.

She asked him to talk about anything else, so Denzel decided to clear the air with his ex about his night of passion with her friend, Avani, and Amy accepted his apology.

Later, Amy told the group of teens that she overheard Joel’s dad speaking to the police and that they believe the attack was random.

She says they should “go out and properly celebrate” and the group takes a selfie together, but Denzel still appears concerned about his ex. Is it because he still wants her back, or could it be because he is still concerned about their involvement with Joel’s attack?

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
