Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell has explained how much of a boost it is to get five key men back available ahead of the final weeks of the season.
Trinity are looking significantly stronger after this week’s 21-man squad reveal, which saw Tom Johnstone, Mason Lino, Jay Pitts and Isaiah Vagana return from injury. Jazz Tevaga also comes back from suspension.
Powell’s out-of-form Wakefield host York Knights this week, in a game that should see them get back to winning ways.
The Trinity boss has revealed that his squad is not yet finalised, with some calls still to be made regarding an instant return.
“They’re all fit,” he told the press today [Friday]. “I’ll make a couple of decisions on whether people are 100% fit or not, but it’s great to have them back in there.
“We want to have back-up. Emre [Guler] should come back in next week. We’re getting back to, not full strength, but it’s a really strong squad.
“We feel like we’re in a good position in that regard.”

Wakefield Trinity dealt triple blow as season-ending injuries confirmed
As Powell referred to, one player who will miss this week’s game is new signing Emre Guler, who has picked up a minor groin issue after his debut against Wigan Warriors last week.
Whilst his presence will be missed, his injury isn’t as bad as some of the other players in the squad, with three key personnel all out for the rest of the year.
Winger Oli Pratt has a recurring hamstring injury and will need an operation.
Powell confirmed: “We knew there was a decent chance of recurrence, but we were hoping that wouldn’t be the case, so he’s going to need an operation that will keep him out for four months.
“He’ll get back in December, some time into pre-season, so yeah, it’s a tough injury. He’s had a tough year with that injury. He hasn’t been able to get going, and he’s a really high-quality player for us.”
Elsewhere, Matty Storton doesn’t need an operation, but he will be in a brace for around three months after suffering an MCL injury.
Lastly, overseas prop Tray Lolesio is unlikely to play again this year, after a hamstring injury.
On the 2026 recruit, Powell said: “[It] is disappointing. I feel like the last couple of games we’ve been pretty unlucky with significant injuries which have left us heavily depleted on the bench. Against the best teams, it’s pretty tough when that happens.”
