It’s all in a good cause raising money for Bolton Hospice in memory of his mother-in-law, Christine Gorton who passed away there two years ago.
His bumper five days of golf will see him playing at Chorley Golf Club, Deane, Hindley Hall, Bolton, Bolton Old Links, Westhoughton, Breightmet, Dunscar, Great Lever, Harwood, Hart Common, Regent Park and Turton GC on the final day.

He starts these memorable rounds on Wednesday at three different clubs, followed by three more on Thursday and Friday and another two each on Saturday and Sunday.
“I’ve got buggies sorted for at least some of them,” explained Steve, who plays off 18.5. “I don’t think I could do all that each day without them!”
The 54-year-old has also got playing companions lined up, from his friends to Turton Lady Captain Catherine Wroe whose mother Margaret Lawson had “a beautiful death” at the Hospice 14 years ago.
The fundraising teed off with a special golf event at Turton involving 17 teams including corporates.
A raffle and auction kickstarted the fundraising to £3,400 and, added Steve, “there has been a lot of help and support from other clubs keen to help the Hospice.”
Christine, a devoted mother and grandmother, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021.
She was a former hairdresser who worked in salons across Bolton before joining the family businesses including Motler’s Butchers in Farnworth and Bolton Snooker and Social Club.
She later became the proud owner of The Butty Box on Manchester Road where her friendly personality and warm smile were known to many.
Daughter Amanda stated: “She faced her illness with courage and determination, receiving treatment at both Bolton Hospital and The Christie.”
In April, 2024, she spent two weeks at Bolton Hospice to help manage her pain and improve her comfort and returned there shortly before July, 2024 where she spent her final three weeks.
“The care, compassion and kindness shown by the Hospice staff was truly exceptional,” said Amanda.
“They not only cared for her with dignity and respect but also provided invaluable support to her family during an incredibly difficult time.”
Commented Steve: “The Hospice is an unbelievable, special place and it’s a disgrace that they’ve had funding cut and have to raise more themselves.
“We are more than happy to support it and the Stand With The Hospice campaign.”
